PLAYERUNKNOWN'S BATTLEGROUNDS Announces Ping-Based Matchmaking, Teases New Map

The fine folks behind PLAYERUNKNOWN'S BATTLEGROUNDS have announced ping-based matchmaking is on its way in a news post on the game's Steam Community page.

In PC 1.0 Update #6, the developers of PUBG state that they are working on a ping-based matchmaking system that will prioritize players with better ping. They had previously been considering a maximum ping limit for the game, but ultimately they decided to go with a slightly different system that should nonetheless have a similar effect on the game. This should split the match pool for the game rather than outright restricting connections based solely on ping. The new system will be making its way to the test servers sometime later this week.

Aside from the new ping-based matchmaking system on its way, the PLAYERUNKNOWN'S BATTLEGROUNDS developers have stated that they ended up delaying development of some new features as they had shifted their priorities towards combating cheating in the game. PUBG Corp had announced plans for a new internal anti-cheat system earlier in February. They had intended to release a development roadmap to give the playerbase an idea of what's in store. For the moment, they're going to be playing it close to the chest on that particular front as they figure out what the new schedule for future content is going to look like.

That's not to say that development on new features has completely stalled; they've teased the idea that a new map is under development. Players can also look forward to general game improvements that will provide "deeper and more realistic gameplay" along with an overall better battle royale experience.
