PLAYERUNKNOWN's BATTLEGROUNDS

Bluehole (TERA) and PLAYERUNKNOWN (“Battle Royale” mods) announced today, that they are pairing up for a new stand alone “Battle Royale” game called PLAYERUNKNOWN’S BATTLEGROUNDS. Battlegrounds will be an open world strategic shooter. This new title will expand on the “Battle Royale” mods for ARMA 3 and H1Z1 with competitive PvP gameplay.

“I’ve always wanted to create a standalone game based on the mod I created for the ARMA series, and working with Bluehole gives me the resources and creative freedom to build the experience I’ve always envisioned,” said Brendan Greene, aka PLAYERUNKNOWN. “We have a great development team in place, and our goal is to create a realistic open world experience with the deep gameplay and strong combat mechanics.”

In PLAYERUNKNOWN'S BATTLEGROUNDS up to 64 players will find themselves on a remote island and must fight to be the last man standing. Players start out with little more than the clothes on their backs and will have to search for something to defend themselves with. Weapons, vehicles, and supplies can be found around the island if you get there first.

Weapons can be upgraded with attachments like suppressors and sights. Available vehicles include both road and off-road varieties. The safe area of the island will continue to shrink making sure the tension stays high and only one player will leave victorious.

“As huge fans of Battle Royale, our Bluehole team shares PLAYERUNKNOWN’s vision of strategic combat driven by player tactics in dynamic battlegrounds,” said Chang Han Kim, Production Director of Bluehole. “For a title that we’ll be publishing across the globe, it made perfect sense to partner with the creator who has a proven track record of making gameplay that fans love, and the collaboration is going great—we’ve already been working hard for months on PLAYERUNKNOWN’S BATTLEGROUNDS.”

Irish native PLAYERUNKNOWN has relocated to Bluehole headquarters in South Korea to serve as creative director for the project. Bluehole is developing the game for PC using Unreal Engine 4. To learn more about PLAYERUNKNOWN’S BATTLEGROUNDS visit the game’s website.
