The true release date for Code Vein is still up in the air, but at least you can try out this delayed Souls-like this month with the upcoming closed network test.

Bandai Namco announced that players can sign up for Code Vein's network test, starting today. You can head to the Code Vein website and enter your details to become eligible. While there isn't a guarantee you'll get in, this is a good opportunity to see if the game is shaping up nicely after its delay. Invites should be distributed some time later this month.

The test applies to Xbox One and PlayStation 4 owners. Because it is a network test, this requires that Xbox One owners have Xbox Live Gold and that PlayStation 4 owners have PS Plus. A Steam release for Code Vein is still expected this year as well, but it is excluded from this test.

According to a press release, players can "create their own character, play through the opening segment of Code Vein, and experience an online co-op dungeon" during the testing period. Because this is a network test, there is no guarantee for server stability, so keep that in mind while playing.

Code Vein is a Souls-like action RPG. Players take the role of their own created character who are vampires called Revenants. Players explore various open environments and slay monsters. You have access to different weapons, skills, and more. It has a very anime-like art style and features difficult gameplay, and you can partner with either AI or a real person in your adventure.

Quick Take

Code Vein seems like a game a lot of people forgot about. After E3 2018, Bandai Namco decided that the game needed some more time in the oven. It looks like they're definitely ramping up for a release this year as is expected, and I suspect that we will hear of an exact date soon. The network test, to me, is exciting progress for the game.
