Planescape Torment Enhanced Edition

A launch trailer for Planescape: Torment: Enhanced Edition has appeared on YouTube, confirming the announcement of the game a few hours before a countdown timer on planescape.com was set to expire. Take a peek at the trailer to see what all the hubbub is about!

Planescape: Torment is a role-playing game based in the Planescape setting of Dungeons & Dragons. Planescape is a campaign setting that contains all of the realms of the "Great Wheel". Originally released in 1994 for the second edition of Dungeons & Dragons, the setting was adapted into the Planescape: Torment video game in 1999 by Interplay Entertainment. The player begins in the city of Sigil, an interdimensional transport hub of sorts set atop an infinitely tall spire in the center of the setting's multiverse.

As it stands, the only way to play the game was to dig up your old disks or grab the GOG.com version of the game that is compatible with modern PCs. Now, the launch of this trailer has revealed that an enhanced edition of this classic role-playing game is on its way.

Planescape: Torment: Enhanced Edition will be optimized for 4K resolution, a far cry from the game's original 640 x 480 resolution. The increased visual fidelity will be complimented with an increase in audio fidelity thanks to a remastered soundtrack. The user interface is getting a bit of an overhaul as well. The game will also be getting updates that have been curated by Chris Avellone, the original lead designer of the game when he was at Black Isle. The development of the enhanced edition is being handled by Beamdog, a company that specializes in remasters and has previously worked on enhanced editions of other Dungeons & Dragons games such as Icewind Dale and Baldur's Gate.

Neither the price nor release date for the enhanced edition have been announced as of yet. Keep an eye on the Planescape website to see what details they'll be releasing when the countdown clock runs down!
