Pirate-themed survival MMO Atlas has received a swashbucklingly big content patch. Into the Ice adds a new dungeon, several new islands, and plenty more.

First up, developer Grapeshot Games is bringing a new dungeon to Atlas. The Polar Ice Dungeon brings with it a new boss battle in the form of the Abominable Snowman. Players will need to whittle down the Snowman's ice shield by killing minions. Once the shield is gone, you'll be able to damage the boss. Each time the encounter moves to a new health state, you'll be inundated with more minions, culminating in chaos with the boss' final stages. If you want to access the Polar Ice Dungeon, you'll need to collect the full set of Power Stones.

You'll also be able to explore five new islands. These islands consist of equatorial and polar climates and are pretty large. We're not sure what's actually on these islands. If you're a fan of Atlas, sally forth on your roguish ship and go discover them. The devs are promising new "discoverable areas", so it won't be a wasted voyage on your part. You'll have a couple of new ship structures and other building types to try if you're hurting for things to do.

Into the Ice also adds a couple of new creature types to Atlas. The Olfend (which Grapeshot apparently nearly called the "Camelephant") can store and distribute water by spitting it out. You can collect water with the Olfend by riding the creature across fertile land or through lakes. The second creature is the Giant Tortuga. Grapeshot says the Giant Tortuga offers its "passengers" reduced oxygen consumption and can act as an organic submarine.

The new content update brings with it a host of bug fixes, quality-of-life improvements and other minor additions for Atlas. You can check out the full patch notes here. To celebrate Into the Ice, Grapeshot is offering Atlas at 50% off until tomorrow. Maybe Into the Ice will be able to do something to fix those "mostly negative" Steam user reviews. Let's hope so.
