Piccolo Dragon Ball FighterZ

Piccolo and Krillin have joined the roster of playable characters in Dragon Ball FighterZ according to a press release from Bandai Namco Entertainment.

Dragon Ball FighterZ is the latest fighting game set in the Dragon Ball universe, a world of entertainment based on a long-running manga by Akira Toriyama. The game is being developed by Arc System Works, a company perhaps best known for their Guilty Gear and BlazBlue fighting game series. It features a roster of classic characters like Goku, Vegeta, Freiza, Cell, and many others that you would expect, but certain notable personalities have been absent from official media - something that is entirely understandable given the scale of the Dragon Ball universe. Now Krillin & Piccolo have joined the fray, just five days after the release of a trailer showing off Trunks' play style and abilities:

Piccolo is stated to be a more "technical" character with an extendable arm and fast-firing beam attacks. Among his arsenal are a flurry of moves that excel at breaking his opponent's guard, and certain attacks can be charged up by long-pressing the necessary buttons to do additional damage. As for Krillin, he's lacking in reach and power (much like his manga counterpart) and makes up for it by attacking from a distance with powerful ki attacks like the Kamehameha. Fans of Dragon Ball Abridged will be delighted to know that his trademark Senzu Bean will be usable in the game, though there isn't any word as to whether or not you can comically throw it at an ally's face.

Dragon Ball FighterZ was officially announced at E3 2017's Xbox Show. It's slated for a release on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC (via Steam) sometime in Early 2018. If you'd like to get in on the closed beta for Dragon Ball FighterZ, registration will be opening on July 26, 2017.

What do you think of Piccolo and Krillin being announced as playable characters in Dragon Ball FighterZ? Who else would you like to see available as a playable character in the game? Do you think this game will be able to live up to the legacy of past Dragon Ball Z fighting games? Let us know in the comments below!
