Modern military shooter World War 3 hits Early Access next month, starting October 19th. The team-based multiplayer game is being developed by The Farm 51, the developers behind bizarre World War 1 shooter Necrovision and Painkiller Hell & Damnation.
The game will cost $28 when it enters Early Access. The developers are calling their pricing structure a "soft-price model", which presumably means it will be cheaper during its Early Access period than when it fully launches.
At first glance, World War 3 looks a lot like Battlefield. It combines a blend of infantry and vehicle combat in large, open maps, but it promises tactical multiplayer in a modern, global conflict, which Battlefield has moved away from in recent years. It will also include "real locations, full body awareness, and a versatile customization system."
World War 3 boasts a "robust ballistic system, advanced armors, and life-like weapons". The ballistics are of the product of "years of research and development with military professionals", so they certainly seem serious about nailing the realism aspect.
Although there is no information about how much content will appear in the Early Access version,
World War 3 has been generating a lot of buzz since its reveal in May, receiving a lot of attention with public showings at Gamescom and PAX West.

Quick Take
Based on what I've seen and heard from this game, it sounds like a cross between the team-based gameplay of Battlefield and the military realism of ArmA. It sounds interesting and it's certainly been generating some hype. Farm 51 certainly have some first-person shooter pedigree, but not for anything this realistic. I'll be curious to see how this pans out. What do you think? Are you excited for World War 3, or are you more excited for Battlefield V or Black Ops 4? Let us know below!
