PAYDAY developer Starbreeze Studios published their 2016 year-end report on February 16th. Within said report, the studio announced that PAYDAY 3 is definitely happening!

The Swedish company develops games with in-house developers. In addition, they also publish games for other developers, such as their recent publishing success with Behaviour Digital Inc.’s Dead by Daylight. The report discusses that this has been a big game for Starbreeze and they’re happy with its sales, which have added 54.6 million Swedish krona ($6.09m USD) to the company’s quarterly revenues.

However, it’s made clear that PAYDAY is their foundation and they wish to push it as a brand. The report mentions several PAYDAY-related projects including the success of PAYDAY 2 and its DLC, as well as a new mobile title called PAYDAY: Crime War.

However, Starbreeze also mentioned that “PAYDAY 3 production is officially initiated and at a full design stage.” However, there’s a reason we don’t have a set of photos or a flashy trailer to show the game off.

Reiterating that PAYDAY is the foundation of Starbreeze, the company stated that the project is going to take time. More specifically, it will “enjoy as much time as [they] deem needed.” There’s plenty to focus on at the moment, so don’t expect many updates any time soon.

However, the game is officially in production. Good news for PAYDAY fans

Quick Take

I admit, I’m cautiously excited about PAYDAY 3. The second title was great, but started to delve a little too far into DLC territory for me. That being said, the game is still a lot of fun. I think that there’s plenty of room to improve the series. With a third installment, I can definitely see Overkill and Starbreeze ironing out the kinks and making a real classic!
