Payday 2's Hoxton's Housewarming Party event has added the ability for players to customize their safe houses as reported by VG 24/7. Details of the new safe house are further elaborated on in a Steam Community news post.

Players will now be able to upgrade their safe house in a variety of different ways as you progress through the game. Among the stated upgrades are a shooting range with a damage calculator, the ability to customize the color of your escape van, and a way to bet some of your offshore funds as a money-making opportunity. There are also daily missions that will reward players with trophies for the safe house upon successful completion.

The legendary actor John Cleese adds a touch of class to your hideout by serving as the voice for the safe house's butler Aldstone. He'll mull around in the background dusting off piles of money and cleaning up all those spent casings on the firing range.

Customizable and upgradeable safe houses were originally announced way back in 2013. They were addressed in a Steam community post by Overkill's Almir Listo who stated that the feature would be added when they had the time to do it.

The new upgradeable safe houses have been added in the midst of the Hoxton's Housewarming Party event. This event lasts for 10 days from October 7th through October 16th. Day 4's content - a new flash grenade - has just been released so the event is already halfway over.

If you'd like to take a peek at the new content, Overkill Software's Tobias Balzano streamed some of Day 2's new content on Starbreeze Studio's official Twitch channel. Payday 2 is free to play for the entire duration of the event, and if you'd like to pick up the game on Steam you can do so at a 75% discount.

Now, all Payday 2 updates can stop having inevitable questions of when customizable safe houses are coming

Quick Take

Personally, I like it when games make the effort to let players add a bit of customization to their home. I wish more games did it. Even if it's a very basic feature, it's still nice to see how players try to make their homes in a game stand out from the others.
