PAX South is currently underway and Penny Arcade along with ReedPop, a company that helps host pop culture events, have announced PAX Unplugged. PAX Unplugged will be a convention under the Penny Arcade umbrella, this time jumping from video games to their ancestors, tabletop gaming—from card games, to RPGs, to miniatures. PAX Unplugged will take place November 17 – 19 in Philadelphia. Badges go on sale this spring.

Penny Arcade is taking the same approach as their other events, applying everything people enjoy about their video game events to tabletop. The emphasis is, of course, giving people a chance to come play tabletop games before they're out, give them a try, and maybe they can meet the people behind the games' creation as well. This also includes the other things one would expect at a PAX event like panels that have leading people in the tabletop world, concerts, tournaments, and more. The plan is also to have it be an event where many announcements are made and world reveals occur.

Those who have attended a PAX event know that board games make a regular appearance as is. PAX Unplugged won't change that, as other events will still have tabletop games on display and related things to do with them. In fact, the PAX Unplugged website notes that it was the growing tabletop presence at each of their PAX events that prompted the creation of Unplugged. However, PAX Unplugged is a tabletop event first and foremost and is an opportunity for Penny Arcade to offer their PAX experience for the rising tabletop world.

PAX Unplugged, with the PAX name behind it, looks to be joining the likes of Gen Con as one of the premiere tabletop events in the U.S.
