Today in the preshow to the Sony PlayStation Event at Paris Games Week Sony took the time to announce one final game before the big conference beginning. This final title was one of the biggest announcements with it being Spelunky 2 from Mossmouth and BlitWorks studios that will be bringing a new adventure with a similar art style to the commercial Spelunky release based on what little was teased.

Even with a blog post by creator Derek Yu, there’s little in the way of details regarding Spelunky 2 at this time. He mentions that parenthood had a big impact on the story and themes of Spelunky 2, and compares working on a sequel some to being a parent. What does appear to be confirmed there is that you’ll be playing as the child of the protagonist of the first game.

Beyond PlayStation 4, Derek Yu confirmed that Spelunky 2 will also be coming to Steam for PC players. Given he said first on PS4 and Steam, it will likely be at the same time as the PlayStation 4 release, although ports for other systems will almost certainly lag behind.
