Paradox Interactive has announced that instead of giving partial refunds (which was found to not be practically possible) to customers affected by the price hike and subsequent roll-back, they would instead give users the choice of a free PC game or two pieces of DLC "... as a gesture of goodwill."

The games on offer will be:
  • Stellaris
  • Hearts of Iron IV
  • Crusader Kings 2
  • Europa Universalis IV
  • Magicka 2
  • Tyranny
OR, if you prefer, TWO from the list of the following DLC:
  • HoI IV: Death or Dishonor
  • EU IV: Third Rome
  • CK II: Monks and Mystics
  • Stellaris: Utopia
  • Tyranny: Tales from the Tiers
If a prospective user happens to own all of the above, then the user will receive "... equivalent giftable keys."

Paradox Interactive's Escher also notes that Paradox's products (except for USD prices, which were not changed) have reverted back to the pre-increase levels as of yesterday. Paradox also promises that the prices rollback has occurred, "... prices will be frozen for a period of three months."

The reason that users are receiving games and DLC instead of partial refunds because after discussing with their sales partners it was decided that they weren't practically possible. As such, anyone who bought any Paradox product between May 17 and today qualifies for this offer. This applies to purchases on various storefronts, including both GOG and Steam.

Additionally, for anyone who wishes to claim their game/DLC's, be sure to go here. Also, remember that you have until August 9th at 23:59 CEST to take advantage of this offer, with customers receiving their games/DLC's by September 30th, 2017.

Quick Take:

I've always appreciated Paradox Interactive as a company who doesn't take itself too seriously, especially for their zany Crusader Kings 2 commercials that they did a while back. The fact that Paradox is continuing on with this endeavor is something that really should be commended. They didn't have to do this at all, and I can only hope that Paradox learns from this moving forward.
