Paradox InteractiveHaemimont Games have announced Surviving Mars, a game that's all about building a functional colony on the titular red planet.

Surviving Mars is the latest title from Bulgarian-based Haemimont Games, a company that is perhaps best known for working with Paradox Interactive on Omerta and the three most recent Tropico titles. Players will begin their excursion on Mars with a small team and a handful of supplies in order to gain a foothold on the red planet, eventually opening the way to building a thriving colony filled with citizens who have never seen Earth in their lives.

The game will feature a retro-futuristic aesthetic similar to that of Fallout and classic pieces of entertainment like Lost in Space or Flash Gordon. Players will be able to research new technology in a randomized tree, and they may encounter special mysterious events such as the sudden appearance of a strange artifact outside one of their colonies. Each colonist will be individually tracked and contribute to the colony in a different fashion. As with many Paradox Interactive titles, the game will also include extensive support for modding.

Surviving Mars is expected to release sometime in 2018 for PC, Mac, Linux, PlayStation 4, & Xbox One. If you'd like to keep up to date with the game, you can sign up over on the game's official website for a sort of Founder's Program which will unlock exclusive in-game skins and give you the chance to get your name into the game's credits. You can also check out the game's Steam store page and add it to your wishlist.

What do you think of Surviving Mars? How do you think Haemimont Games' excursion to the red planet will compare to other "build a colony on another world" titles such as RimWorld and Planetbase? What do you hope to see in the game? Let us know in the comments below!
