Paladins Champion Tyra

Hi-Rez Studios' free to play shooter Paladins has introduced a new champion named Tyra in their latest update. The champion's new abilities (as well as the rest of the Patch Notes) were detailed in a news post on the game's official Steam Community page.

Tyra "The Untamed" is the newest addition to the Paladins roster and she boasts quite the arsenal. She has a focus on ranged combat with firearms and explosives. Her primary attack is an Auto Rifle that does 120 damage every 0.09 seconds and her secondary "Nade Launcher" fires a grenade that does 700 damage in a small area of effect. Her Fire Bomb ability throws an incendiary device that leaves an awful mess of fire on the ground (much like a Molotov cocktail) for six seconds which takes away 9% of an enemy's maximum health in a damage-over-time burning effect. The Crossfire ability increases Tyra's attack and movement speed by 40% for 4.5 seconds and halts any ammo consumption. Finally, her Hunter's Mark ability pins a target on an enemy, revealing their position and increasing the damage they take from your basic attacks by 15%.

Along with her base abilities, Tyra's cards add a bit of variety in how you play the character. The Hunting Season card allows you to regain health if you kill a target that's been hit with your Hunter's Mark, and the Turn The Table card results in a healing effect being applied to you for every successful hit with your Nade Launcher. Her other cards include reductions to movement speed penalties, increases to reload speed, and reduction in self-damage from explosives. Overall, Tyra's cards appear to allow for a character with a focus on sustainability and constant movement while raining explosive destruction down on the enemy.

Of course, this patch doesn't just center around the addition of a single new champion. The patch includes a number of balance changes, a rotation in the lineup of free heroes, and several other minor changes or added features. Take a peek at the patch notes to see all of the changes made to the game in Open Beta 40.

What do you think of Tyra as a character? Do you think that Hi-Rez Studios are doing a good job in keeping Paladins fresh and up to date? What style of play would you like to see the next champion focus on? Let us know in the comments below!
