Pac-Man Championship Edition 2

Bandai Namco has a lot of great prospects on the horizon, from the latest Tekken release to a host of anime inspired titles. This is all well and good, but when you say the word Namco, some still think of the arcade greats, and I'm happy to report that those fans have not been left by the wayside. Just announced today, Bandai Namco will be releasing PAC-MAN Championship Edition 2, the third game in the series that is pushing maze game conventions to their limits.

Developed internally back in Japan, CE2 will feature further tweaks to mechanics introduced in the original game and DX. In addition, the trailer features previews of 3D map transitions and new ways to gobble up ghosts. CE2 will also add boss fights to the PAC-MAN formula, allowing you to take on giant ghosts for big points after a fruitful run at Score Attack.

PAC-MAN Championship Edition 2 will be coming to Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC via Steam in September of this year. Those lucky few who are attending this year's San Diego Comic-Con will be able to go to Bandai Namco's booth and try out the game for themselves.

Quick Take

If you would have told me yesterday that a Pac-Man game would be one of my most anticipated games of the fall, I would have laughed you out of some sort of building. Yet, here we are. Everything in the trailer looks incredible, and my recent review of PAC-MAN 256 now feels like a warm up for this September's main event. Bring on the big ghosts Namco! I'm ready for them!

Are you excited to play a new Pac-Man game later this year? What are your highest scores on the prior Championship Edition games? Is there another Namco arcade property you'd like to see the team revisit? Answer these questions and more in the comments below!
