Update: A press release from Blizzard has confirmed that the Overwatch price drop is permanent. Console players are getting in on the deal, too—participating retailers are simlarly reducing the price on console versions of the legendary edition. Our original story continues below.
A few good years after its initial release, something wonderful has finally happened: there's been an Overwatch price drop for the PC version of the game.
Overwatch first released in May of 2016. It's been stunningly successful for Blizzard Entertainment with it having made over a billion dollars in its first year. Since its release, the game has seen numerous events come and go and the launch of an official league with 12 teams from around the world (soon to be expanded to 20).
It's barely been three years since the game first launched and Blizzard Entertainment have seen fit to make what appears to be a permanent Overwatch price drop. The Standard Edition of the game now costs $19.99 or your regional equivalent and the Legendary Edition of the game will run you $39.99, the previous cost of the Standard Edition. In effect, both editions have had their price reduced by $20.
We can't entirely be certain if this Overwatch price drop is permanent, mind. Typically, there will be discount percentages with the original price stricken out if the game is on sale. There hasn't been a peep about a sale or about the price drop on any of Blizzard's or Overwatch's official social media channels as far as I can tell. We've reached out to Blizzard Entertainment in the meantime to confirm whether or not this is truly a permanent drop. In any case, it is indeed listed at a lower price for the moment and it does appear to be permanent.

The Overwatch Theatrical Teaser is not as well known as some of the other animated shorts, but it certainly shows off the game's world pretty nicely. It played exclusively in movie theaters for a limited time to promote the game.
The Standard Edition of Overwatch simply includes the base game—you'll get access to 29 separate heroes, all of the maps, and the various different gameplay modes like Quick Play, Competitive, and the many different oddities in the Arcade. The Legendary Edition kicks in some nice bonuses:
- 5 Epic Skins and 5 Legendary Skins
- another 5 Legendary Skins exclusive to this version of the game
- Tracer unlocked in Heroes of the Storm
- a Baby Winston pet for World of Warcraft
- Mercy's Wings cosmetic for Diablo III
- in-game portraits for Starcraft II
- an Overwatch-themed card back for Hearthstone
If you don't want to wait for the next sale, you can pick up Overwatch for yourself for $19.99 or your regional equivalent with an optional Legendary Edition available for $39.99. You can also upgrade your existing Standard Edition to the Legendary Edition by simply paying the difference in price. We've reached out to Blizzard Entertainment to confirm whether or not this Overwatch price drop is permanent or some kind of error.
