The "Pink" Mercy Skin in Overwatch has raised over $12.7 million for breast cancer research according to a tweet from the game's official account.

Mercy's Pink Skin was first revealed in early May of this year. Profits from the skin went towards the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (or BCRF), a charity that currently holds a four-star rating on Charity Navigator and an A+ rating on Charity Watch. This unique Overwatch cosmetic was sold for $15 for a limited amount of time. The sales were helped along by a veritable army of streamers raising funds over several days alongside t-shirt sales which also supported the BCRF. Players could also earn special in-game sprays through Twitch Rewards by linking their Battle.net accounts to the streaming service and tuning in to a few hours of these special charity streams.

Blizzard Entertainment is now able to tell us the final total for this particular charity event: a whopping $12.7 million was raised for the BCRF between sales of the skin and t-shirts. $130,000 was raised separately by viewers donating to streamers during the charity drive. Leadership from the nonprofit Breast Cancer Research Foundation headed off to Blizzard headquarters in person to pick up one of those comically-oversized checks that we all love to see.

Overwatch fans raised nearly $13 million for the BCRF to support breast cancer research efforts.

The donation is the largest given to the BCRF by a corporate partner within a single year in the organization's 25-year history. It certainly counts for a lot - the BCRF's financials states that they spent over $60 million last year in program expenses alone. This means that Overwatch players raised around 20% of the organization's yearly budget in just a couple of weeks!

It's great to see people lending a helping hand for a good cause (and getting a pretty sweet skin in return). If you're still waiting on your Pink Mercy t-shirt, /u/Galaar mentioned on the Overwatch subreddit that the orders for the shirts are still processing and are expected to ship by the end of September 2018.

What do you think of the money Overwatch players have raised for the BCRF through purchasing the Pink Mercy Skin and t-shirt? Do you think Blizzard Entertainment should do more similar charity drives? Let us know in the comments below!
