Overwatch League viewers can receive free League Tokens just by watching live matches on Twitch and some new skins can be unlocked by Cheering during matches according to a post on the Twitch blog.

Blizzard announced hundreds of in-game skins for the 12 Overwatch League teams prior to the start of its inaugural season, all of which were added into the game in a new menu in a later patch. Stage 2 of the first season begins tonight, and Twitch has announced that live viewers will be able to earn League Tokens simply by watching the matches.

To earn League Tokens, you must link your Battle.net account to your Twitch account. One token (it takes 100 to unlock a single skin) will be awarded at the conclusion of a map. This means that a viewer can potentially earn anywhere from 12-15 tokens in a single evening depending on how the three matchups play out. Additionally, a lucky few fans will win 100 tokens for every final map they watch for the evening.

In addition to unlocking League Tokens by watching matches live on Twitch, fans can Cheer to make unique skins available for everyone in the game. Leaderboards show off the heaviest hitters in terms of Cheers.

A few new skins are being made available to be unlocked via the Twitch cheering mechanic. As individual people cheer for their respective teams, a counter will go up until the skin is unlocked and available for everyone. (It's not quite clear if the new skins will be available for purchase in-game or only available through Twitch somehow.) Viewers can also unlock Twitch emotes based on their own progress with Cheering.

As you can see from the above screenshot, quite a few people have already begun the Cheering frenzy, racking up just a bit of progress towards the first skin unlock. This is just the beginning for Twitch integration with the Overwatch League - more cool stuff to unlock will be on the way in the future. Be sure to check out the F.A.Q. to see which regions are eligible for this promotion and for more details on how it works. Bear in mind that you'll only earn League Tokens for watching during live matches.

Stage 2 of the Overwatch League begins tonight at 7:00 PM Eastern time. If you're a bit behind on the matches so far, please check out our article that details all of the changes coming for Stage 2 of the league's inaugural season.

What do you think of how Twitch integration has panned out with the Overwatch League? Do you think the tokens make for a nice bonus or should they have aimed for bigger rewards? Let us know in the comments below!
