The Stage 2 Finals of the Overwatch League concluded yesterday with the winners taking home a $100,000 prize according to a news post on the league's official website. The New York Excelsior and Philadelphia Fusion ended up being the showcase match after the Fusion beat out the London Spitfire in the day's earlier matches.

The Overwatch League is Blizzard Entertainment's take on e-sports for their first-person shooter Overwatch. Its inaugural season features 12 teams from around the world competing against one another. The Season is split into four Stages of five weeks apiece, and each Stage is concluded with a title match from the two best-performing teams from that time period. Stage 2 ended up seeing the New York Excelsior and Philadelphia Fusion battling it out for a $100,000 prize (with $25,000 going to the second place winners). The NYXL had previously participated in the Stage 1 Finals but lost out to the London Spitfire.

If you'd like to watch the match sans spoilers, you can check out the VOD on Twitch. The following paragraph talks about how the match played out, so be sure to skip past it if you don't want to spoil the surprise.

The Philadelphia Fusion racked up a strong early lead of 2-0 before the New York Excelsior were able to make a comeback and even things up to 2-2. The Stage 2 Finals came down to Watchpoint: Gibraltar where both teams duked it out in a white-knuckle match for the title. The game eventually wound down to just before Point C with the NYXL on the offense. Mano of the New York Excelsior was able to use Winston's Primal Rage Ultimate to bat away the opposition long enough for the cart to slide in place and secure them their victory with a 3-2 reverse sweep. The NYXL had themselves lost to a reverse sweep in the Stage 1 Finals against the London Spitfire, so it must be nice to be on the other end of that particular scenario.

Now that Stage 2 has concluded, the league will be undergoing a weeklong break for players to recuperate. A new patch will probably be applied and introduce some new changes to the league version of the game; we're likely to learn more about those changes in an upcoming episode of Watchpoint this week. Stage 3 of the Overwatch League is set to commence on April 4th where Tank player Geguri will make her debut with the Shanghai Dragons in a match-up against the Dallas Fuel.
