All of the Control maps in Overwatch have been temporarily disabled across all game modes due to an unexpected error that is affecting the game according to a forum post from Lead Engineer Bill Warnecke on the game's official forums.

Most maps in Overwatch are categorized by the gameplay they're associated with, although some maps pull double duty with some changes made for other game modes. The Control style of gameplay involves both teams attempting to capture and hold a single point while a progress meter builds up to 100%. Each of these maps is divided into three subsections and the team that wins two out of three rounds emerges the victor of that particular game.

An unexpected error has emerged involving all four of the game's control maps - Ilios, Lijiang Tower, Nepal, and Oasis. Whatever the source of the error may be, the result is that it causes games to re-instance. The impact of the error is severe enough that the maps have been disabled across all game modes - Quick Play, Arcade, the Game Browser, and Competitive Play. Blizzard expects that the issue should be resolved within a few hours and the maps will be brought back into the rotation once everything has been sorted out.

Overwatch is currently in the midst of its Halloween Terror 2017 event. The second appearance of the game's annual Halloween event introduced over 50 new cosmetics as well as an Endless variant of the Junkenstein's Revenge co-operative PvE game mode. If you'd like to take a crack at blasting Zomnics and getting some new skins, you have just under two weeks to get it done - Halloween Terror ends on November 1.

What do you think of Blizzard temporarily disabling all four Control Maps due to an unexpected error? If this is related to today's patch, do you think the developers should have done a better job ensuring the quality of the code before releasing it into the wild? Let us know in the comments below!
