Outward has been announced by Deep Silver as a brand-new RPG that's in development and is set to be released in 2019.

There's plenty of role-playing games where you're the legendary hero or child of destiny. Outward doesn't roll like that - you're just a normal dude. You won't be able to rely on the fates to protect you in this one! Instead, you must make use of clever tactics and everything in your arsenal to survive the challenges put before you.

Specific emphasis is being placed upon survival in this open-world RPG from developer Nine Dots Studios with support from Maximum Games according to the press release from Deep Silver. While Nine Dots is relatively new on the scene, Maximum Games has quite a few titles under the belt like the ogre-bashing title Extinction which we reviewed earlier this year. Have a gander at Outward's "The Human Side of Adventuring" trailer to see some of this in action:

Survival is key in an uncaring world. You won't be able to just chug down some healing potions and make everything better. If you don't stay hydrated and mind your surroundings, you'll be in for a bad time in Outward. The developers are aiming for a certain level of realism and challenge. Even the magic system is tougher than most games, requiring a series of complex rituals to call upon the fantastic powers at your disposal.

Thankfully, you won't have to go it alone. Outward will allow a friend to join you in this open-world experience through two-player local split screen or online multiplayer. You're gonna need the help - an auto-saving system means that you aren't going to be able to hammer F5 and do something stupid like you would in some other games. (Here's looking at you, Skyrim.)

Outward seems like a pretty neat idea and it might just find its place in the gaming market. You'll be able to pick it up for yourself on the PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on March 29, 2019, a month and a half later than the previously announced release date set for mid-February. Pre-orders should be opening up sometime soon. In the meantime, you can add the game to your wishlist on Steam.

What do you think of Outward? Does the idea of an open-world fantasy RPG with survival elements appeal to you or would you prefer to keep it simple? Let us know in the comments below!
