Memories of Mars, an open-world survival game set on the red planet, is now available on Steam Early Access.

We first got hands-on with Memories of Mars at PAX South 2018 and later checked in with the game in early April of this year. Since then, the developers have been hard at work at getting the game ready for prime time, and now it seems that they're ready to show their game to the world. You can get a feel for what to expect by checking out the Early Access Launch Trailer:

Memories of Mars begins with players waking up in a darkened facility with a screen warning of an incoming Coronal Mass Ejection, a particular type of stellar event that can be summarized as "not good". They'll have to head out into the remnants of a once-thriving Martian colony as they try to establish a foothold and acquire the necessary technology to survive. Players will have to contend with terrifying robotic bug and worm bots while also fending off enemy players who are looking to ventilate them with a variety of deadly space guns. In short, it feels a bit like Rust on Mars with a few of its own twists including a skill tree and an upkeep system for bases.

The game is currently in Steam Early Access so it's still very much in development. There have already been three hotfix patches deployed and more work is on the way as Limbic Entertainment hustles to fix up some of the more pressing issues that typically come with the launch of a game.

If Memories of Mars sounds like the kind of game you'd enjoy, you can pick it up on Steam or the Humble Store [Affiliate Link] for $26.99 or your regional equivalent, a 10% launch discount on its regular price of $29.99.

What do you think of Memories of Mars? Do you think this style of game can compete in the era of battle royale titles? Let us know in the comments below!
