The open-world pirate adventure Ferret Scoundrels will sail for Steam Early Access on May 9th, developer Cryogenic Entertainment announced.

Developer Cryogenic Entertainment says it only plans to keep Ferret Scoundrels on Early Access for a few months. The studio is aiming for a full release in summer. A demo version was recently released via Steam which Cryogenic says has helped them squash bugs and add new features. If you still want to play that demo, you've got until May 9th to do so. At that point, the game will transition to Early Access and you'll need to pay for it.

Ferret Scoundrels is an open-world pirate game starring the titular mammals as plucky pirates. Players can sail unknown waters as a pirate, tradesman, or general, among other things. The game centers on exploration, naval combat, and trading, with various factions to work for and the ability to customize your vessel. Check out the gameplay teaser for Ferret Scoundrels below:

Cryogenic says the Early Access version of Ferret Scoundrels will be "fully playable" and will contain all the features listed in the game's Steam description. The studio has plans to add more content to the game in the full version such as extra islands, dynamic economies, and voice acting. Cryogenic is keen to stress that these are only possible features and that they might not find their way to Ferret Scoundrels. If you've got any suggestions for changes or feedback for Cryogenic, you can hit up their Discord, Twitter, or Facebook to let them know.

Ferret Scoundrels will be released via Steam Early Access on May 9th. A full version of the game will follow sometime this summer. There's no word yet on a concrete launch window. We'll bring you more news on this as we get it.
