Welcome to Ocular Reality, where we take a look at some of the newest games for the Oculus Rift and see how they look and feel while you play them. While we're at the start of a new year, I wanted to look back at the start of video game,s so I picked VRong a Virtual Reality take on Pong or more specifically 3D Pong by Scott Wilson. VRong is a very simple yet addictive game. Much like other iterations of 3D Pong, your aim is to continue the ball rally for as long as possible. The way that you control the paddle is easy enough by moving the direction of your head around in an effort to rally the ball. The more you play the faster the ball will move until either you or your opponent concede a point. Using the depth provided by the Oculus Rift, VRong manages to take a game like 3D Pong to a new level of realism as you could never properly tell how close or far away that ball would be in the original. VRong also has two different difficulty sliders allowing beginners to play the easy version or those who want more of a challenge can take on the hard mode. Vrong properly utilizes such features of the Oculus Rift as smooth head tracking and depth of field. This might be a game that could lead some users to getting motion sickness, especially when the ball begins to move faster. If you want to try out this game you can head over to the VRong ShareVR page and download it for free (Windows and Mac). What do you think of playing a game like Pong using the Oculus Rift? Are there any other retro games you think would work well with the Oculus Rift?
