Today, Shiro Games announced that Northgard, their Norse Mythology-based real-time strategy game (RTS), will be coming to the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One later this year.

In Northgard, players command a Viking clan that is settling on a new continent while battling hordes of new enemies, which includes mythical creatures from Norse mythology. During the game, players will be able to control one of six clans across single-player, online co-op, and competitive modes. To accommodate to the fact that console gamers will be playing with a controller, the console port will feature a newly revamped UI so that they can play without compromises.
Everything that is currently included in the PC version, including the 3 DLC clans, will come with the game. All of the updates, such as the Relics and Ragnork updates, will also be included.
Northgard was originally released on Steam's Early Access on February 22, 2017, with the title eventually selling over 1 million copies. When released on March 7, 2018, the game went on to received an 80 on OpenCritic.
“We are very happy to reveal we are bringing Northgard to all three consoles later this year,” said Sebastien Vidal, CEO and co-founder, Shiro Games. “We have worked hard to optimize Northgard for the controller and to be played on the go in the Switch version. All the content of the original version will be available at launch. This includes the campaign mode, multiplayer, all six clans and much more!”
Quick Take:
Northgard is a game that I've always liked, especially with the Vikings setting and overall genre. We really don't get too many good RTS titles anymore. If the Switch release is good, then I'll probably pick it up. Hopefully there will be cross-compatibility between the three consoles, but I'm not holding my breath with Sony.
