In a launch trailer, Bandai Namco revealed that Final Fantasy XV’s Noctis Lucis Caelum is coming to Tekken 7 in Spring 2018. This is the third DLC pack coming to the game, and it includes an FFXV themed stage as well.
The stage includes the other three FFXV characters on the sidelines cheering you on, alongside the Regalia. Noctis is bringing with his Engine Blade as a weapon, he can use magic as well. According to the video, Noctis doesn’t affect the story at all – he is only relevant in non-story related activities.
While the Tekken franchise is known for having tons of guest characters, this is the first time a Final Fantasy character has made the rounds. Geese Howard, from both the King of Fighters and Fatal Fury franchises, is coming this December. Akuma from Street Fighter was incorporated into the main story as well.
Final Fantasy XV has seen its fair share of cross-promotion. The game recently had a crossover event with the Assassin’s Creed franchise. Forza Horizon 3 introduced the Regalia as a playable car earlier this year.
Looking at forums like ResetEra, fans don’t seem too happy about this decision. They say they’d be more satisfied with almost any other Final Fantasy character including Gladiolus from the same game. Noctis was the main playable character in XV, however, so it makes sense he was selected for the crossover.
In other Tekken 7 news, the title has been nominated for “Best Fighting Game” in the upcoming Game Awards. It released this year on Xbox One, PC, and PlayStation 4. The game was praised for being widely accessible and a fitting end to the long-running story.
