Well, it's official now and it appears the rumors were correct; No Man's Sky has been delayed.

Hello Games founder and head developer on No Man's Sky, Sean Murray, revealed today that the game has been officially delayed. Thankfully the delay is only a slight one; with the game now slated for release in early August.

Murray states in a blog post that some "key moments needed extra polish" and made the tough call to delay the game for a few weeks, to ensure that "something special" is released.

"We understand that this news is disappointing," states Murray in the blog post. "Making this game is the hardest thing I’ve ever done in my life, but we are so close now, and we’re prepared to make the tough choices to get it right."

Murray also thanks the community for No Man's Sky for their continued support and hopes that the fans will accept their apologies for the delay.

No Man's Sky has been in development for over three years at Hello Games, a small, independent studio with a team of fifteen people. No Man's Sky, which is their biggest game to date, is a procedurally generated space simulation where players will explore a vast universe filled with 18 quintillion planets. Much of the game has been under wraps for a long time, but most details that have been revealed show No Man's Sky to be an open-world space simulation, where players will not only explore and discover new creatures and structures on alien worlds but fight and survive by slowly upgrading their equipment by any means necessary. We have previously gone over the revealed details about the game if you want to find out what there is publicly known about the game.

The game itself has been going strong for nearly two years, especially after a catastrophic flood nearly destroyed all of the work done by the team in Christmas of 2013. That flood almost caused the game to be cancelled, but Hello Games continued development on the title.

Officially now, No Man's Sky will be released for the PC and PS4 on August 9th in North America, August 10th in Europe, and August 12th in the UK.
