Following in the footsteps of Sony's cross-buy initiative, Nintendo announced OlliOlli, the indie pixel skater, will be offered as a cross-buy title on March 5th for both WiiU and 3DS.

OlliOlli marks the first third party developer to offer cross buy through Nintendo. This 2-D skater releases via the Nintendo eshop for $9.99 according to the announcement made via Nintendo Life. While the game is utilizing the cross-buy function, Nintendo has yet to include cross-save. Save files in OlliOlli will not be transferable between the WiiU and Nintendo 3DS versions.

Nintendo announced the release of OlliOlli back in January on both 3DS and WiiU. This 2-D skater combines the tricks of a Tony Hawk game with the fast paced action of 2-D side scrollers, focusing on landing awesome tricks while aiming for the highest score.

The game was well received by critics when it released on Sony consoles and PC back in July of last year, but concerns were raised about frame rate when Nintendo announced its release on their consoles. Rest assured that OlliOlli on the WiiU and 3DS will run at 60fps with little input lag. That being said, Nintendo announced the 3DS version will be in 2-D only due to technical limitations.

Nintendo first announced the cross-buy initiative last month when they announced plans to offer Mario vs. Donkey Kong as a cross-buy title when it releases March 5th. They have yet to announce any further titles utilizing the cross-buy function.

OlliOlli releases on Nintendo consoles just in time for the release of its sequel OlliOlli 2: Welcome to Olliwood on Sony consoles. Nintendo has yet to announce a release of OlliOlli 2 on Nintendo consoles, so for now, fans will have to dive into the original game on the WiiU and 3DS.
