Nintendo is rolling out a preview tour to promote their upcoming console, the Nintendo Switch.

After the first look at the Nintendo Switch Presentation on January 12th, Nintendo will be taking the console on tour across North America and give fans a hands-on preview of the system.

Each tour date will consist of three days across major cities in North America, including New York, Toronto, and San Francisco. The first two days will be invite-only events, but the third day is open to the general public. In addition to these tour dates, Nintendo will also have a presence at PAX South, PAX East, and SXSW this year as well.

Nintendo is promising a diverse number of games and features to showcase the capabilities of the Switch.

The full schedule is as follows, please note that all events are on a first-come-first-served basis, so line up early if you want to try out the Switch for the first time.

  • New York – Jan. 13-15
  • PAX South, San Antonio - Jan. 27-29
  • Toronto – Jan. 27-29
  • Washington, D.C. – Feb. 10-12
  • Chicago – Feb. 17-19
  • San Francisco – Feb. 24-26
  • Los Angeles – March 3-5
  • PAX East, Boston - March 10-12
  • SXSW, Austin - March 16-18

Quick Take

This is a wise move by Nintendo. Putting the Nintendo Switch out in the hands of the public might generate much more buzz for the system than standard advertising. People being able to physically play the system might also eliminate any hardware concerns they have as well.

Plus, from a business standpoint, it's a good move to not make the same mistakes as the Wii U, which failed to generate much buzz in part due to market confusion with the Wii.

The only real concern now is whether or not the Nintendo Switch will have the game presence it needs to survive. There are a lot of promising rumors already regarding third party support, as well as some indie game support which is already a good sign, but more game reveals, possibly at the January event, may make the Switch more appetizing for potential customers.

What do you think, though? Will you line up to try out the Switch? Leave your comments below.
