Upcoming Nintendo Switch Online NES Titles

Every month since launch, Nintendo has been releasing NES classics for the Nintendo Switch Online subscription service. The upcoming games, presumably for May, are now listed on the NES section of Nintendo Switch Online. As you can see, these new games include Donkey Kong Jr., Vs. Excitebike, Clu Clu Land.

Donkey Kong Jr. is the sequel to the original Donkey Kong. This is specifically the NES version that was a launch title with the console, not the arcade version, which is for sale from Hamster's Arcade Archives, but also for the Nintendo Switch here. It's one of the most classic platformers out there, but then you could say that just about any of Nintendo's classics.

Vs. Excitebike is an updated version of Excitebike. Presumably, this isn't the arcade version, but the Famicom Disk System version. It's been called effectively a sequel building on the same ideas and graphics, except including a versus mode that the first game lacked. It also has a mode based on the arcade version, and a more refined track editor version. The score is also different, and was composed by Soyo Oka (who later scored Super Mario Kart). It had never been released in the west until 2015 when it got a Wii U virtual console release.

Clu Clu Land is a game molded after Pac-Man, with the idea of exploring a maze with some puzzle situations. You play as Bubbles, a female balloonfish. She is always moving, and you can only have her turn at certain poles. Your goal is to reveal the various gold ingots that will reveal a shape outline.

The Nintendo Switch Online subscription service launched in September last year, with access to 20 NES titles, including Ice Climber, The Legend of Zelda, Balloon Fight, Soccer, Tennis, Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros., Dr. Mario, Super Mario Bros. 3, Donkey Kong, Ghosts ’n Goblins, Excitebike, Tecmo Bowl, Yoshi, Double Dragon, Gradius, Ice Hockey, River City Ransom, Pro Wrestling, and Baseball.

Last month we reported April's NES games, Super Mario Bros. 2: The Lost Levels, Star Soldier, and Punch-Out!!. In January we also reported that SNES would hopefully start joining the Nintendo Switch Online catalog, but so far we haven't heard anything from Nintendo, and everyone is still waiting and hoping.
