Nintendo Switch Online subscribers will be able to download select SNES games via the service starting today. These SNES titles will be available at no additional cost to already active subscribers.

This news came via yesterday's Nintendo Direct. 20 SNES games will be available, including four which have not previously been up for purchase since their original SNES release. There's a pretty even spread of titles on the list; some RPGs, some platformers, and some sports games. It's a pretty diverse list, so if you're a Nintendo Switch Online subscriber you should get your money's worth. Here's the full list of SNES games you can download via Nintendo Switch Online starting today:

  • Super Mario World
  • Super Mario Kart
  • The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
  • Super Metroid
  • Stunt Race FX (Available for the first time since its original Super NES release!)
  • Kirby’s Dream Land 3
  • Super Mario World 2: Yoshi’s Island
  • Star Fox
  • F-ZERO
  • Pilotwings
  • Kirby’s Dream Course
  • BRAWL BROTHERS
  • Breath of Fire
  • Demon’s Crest
  • Joe & Mac 2: Lost in the Tropics
  • SUPER E.D.F. EARTH DEFENSE FORCE
  • Super Ghouls’n Ghosts
  • Super Puyo Puyo 2 (Available for the first time in the U.S.!)
  • Super Soccer (Available for the first time since its original Super NES release!)
  • Super Tennis (Available for the first time since its original Super NES release!)
According to Nintendo, these games can all be played "with online functionality". For some games, this means multiplayer; for others, it means voice chat via the Nintendo Switch Online smartphone app. As with the service's NES library, you'll be able to use save states and the Rewind function with these SNES games. Nintendo is promising more SNES games for Switch Online in the future. We don't yet know what other games could be coming to the service, so stay tuned for more info on this as we get it.

In addition to the SNES Switch Online library, Nintendo also announced a special controller for the Switch. It's shaped like the original SNES controller, but it's completely wireless. You'll be able to order up to four of these per Nintendo Account, and you'll only be able to get them if you've got an active Nintendo Switch Online membership. Presumably, the controller will also be compatible with other games that support sideways Joy-Con play. Nintendo says the controllers will be available "soon".
