April's NES games for Nintendo Switch Online subscribers have been announced. Good news - there's three this month on the Western side of things.

Nintendo is kicking things off in April with Super Mario Bros. 2: The Lost Levels. This isn't the game's first rodeo in the West; it's been on the SNES, the Wii Virtual Console, and the Game Boy Color in various guises. Still, you can now play the original unadulterated Super Mario Bros. 2 on your Switch. Those who know their Nintendo history will be aware that this sequel was originally only released in Japan. Western audiences instead got a re-skinned version of Yume Kōjō: Doki Doki Panic. The Japanese version of Super Mario Bros. 2 was inspired by series creator Shigeru Miyamoto and his team creating more challenging level designs for Nintendo's coin-operated VS. System.

The second Nintendo Switch Online game for April is Punch-Out!!. This boxing classic sees players control Little Mac in his bid for boxing stardom. Mac works his way up a ladder of increasingly tough enemies culminating in a battle with the titleholder Mr. Dream. Originally, the game was titled Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!! on the NES, but after Tyson lost his title Nintendo decided not to renew his contract. You're getting the non-Tyson version on Switch.

Finally, Switch Online subscribers can download vertical scrolling shooter Star Soldier. The first game in the long-running Soldier series, Star Soldier lets players pilot the compact space fighter Caesar across 16 stages. Your mission is to halt a galactic invasion masterminded by Starbrain, a giant computer inhabiting a floating space station.

All three of these games will become available for Nintendo Switch Online subscribers to play on April 10th. They'll be joining March's Kid Icarus and StarTropics. If you're looking to get a subscription, they're $3.99 per month or $19.99 for a year. As part of your subscription, you'll also get bonuses like Switch cloud saves, access to online multiplayer, and (right now) an exclusive chance to play the unlikely battle royale game Tetris 99. Twitch Prime subscribers can currently get up to a year's worth of Nintendo Switch Online as part of their Prime subscription.
