Firmware version 8.0.0 is now live on Nintendo Switch. Once applied, the update adds a number of new features and functions to the console's firmware.

First up, version 8.0.0 adds a Sort Software feature. You can now arrange the software on your home screen according to four different criteria: time last played, total play time, software title, and software publisher. Good news for anyone who needs games to be arranged alphabetically (not saying that's us, but not saying it isn't either). That's only if you're viewing All Software, though. All Software appears as an option when there are thirteen or more software icons on your home menu.

Nintendo has also added a bunch of new icons to the Switch in 8.0.0. Fifteen new icons have been added, all of them themed around Splatoon 2 and Yoshi's Crafted World. To change your user icon, head to your My Page, which can be accessed via the top left section of the home menu. There are still a bunch more icons themed around other games if you're not keen on either of the new options.

Version 8.0.0 also includes a couple of relatively small but welcome additions. There's a Zoom feature now, which can be toggled via System Settings. Pressing the HOME button twice will activate Zoom. You can now transfer your save data for individual games. To do this, head to System Settings, then Data Management, then Transfer Your Save Data.

Lastly, there are a few quality-of-life improvements. Praise Nintendo, for you can now stop the console waking up when the AC adapter is disconnected. There's a new VR Mode restriction under Parental Controls, as well as new regions to select: Hong Kong, Taiwan, and South Korea. Nintendo has also altered the wording of a couple of its system options. Save Data Cloud Backup is now Save Data Cloud, and Transfer Your User and Save Data is now Transfer Your User Data. Version 8.0.0 also includes "general system stability improvements", which are likely too minor for Nintendo to specifically list.

Whew! That's everything. You can download firmware update 8.0.0 for your Nintendo Switch right now.
