An interview with Nintendo President, Tatsumi Kimishima, has released today in Mainichi Shimbun, one of the major newspapers in Japan. In this interview Kimishima talks about a couple of key plans for Nintendo in 2016 and even gives us some release windows for some previous announcements. This article was originally found on the neogaf forums by user Muzy72 and parts of the article were translated by Twitter user @serkantoto.

One of the first big parts of the interview in Kimishima's idea of the NX not being something built on top of previous ideas but instead as a brand new idea. Nothing else is specifically revealed about what the Nintendo NX will be but he does tell fans that Nintendo will reveal more details about the console in 2016. Whether that means near the start or the end of the year we will just have to wait to see.

Kimishima also expanded upon the previous announcements of the companies expansion into the mobile and theme park markets. In addition to mobile and theme park appearances Nintendo will also be making movies and anime based on some of their characters. The first of these smartphone apps is going to be released in March, which we already know to be Miitomo. There will also be some kind of point system across all Nintendo games that you play replacing the Club Nintendo program that was closed last year.

Kimishima also promised that there would be apps featuring famous Nintendo characters released during the year which continues the idea of further utilizing and monetizing their famous characters. Nintendo is really showing a drive to change up their business model with these upcoming plans to partner with other companies to extend Nintendo's reach into these other fields that Nintendo has in recent years ignored.

The last goal that Kimishima talked about for Nintendo isn't one for 2016 specifically but as they branch out into all of these different areas they hope to bring in profits of over 100 billion yen ($855 million). This goal is meant to be achieved over "several years" though presenting more what his focus is over the coming years with extending Nintendo's business models and reach. This profit would be 4 times as large as what they recorded for last year.
