Come E3 this June, Nintendo will host two tournaments for some of its most competitive games on the Nintendo Switch. A select group of players have been invited to participate in the first-ever Super Smash BrosInvitational 2018, and qualified teams will square off against each other in the Splatoon 2 World Championship. Both events are scheduled for June 11 and 12 at the Los Angeles Convention Center, coinciding with the E3 trade show that goes from June 12 to 14 at the same venue. The tournaments will also be livestreamed for those who can't attend the event.

This will likely be one of the first times the world will see the upcoming Super Smash Bros. for Switch in action, after the reveal of the crossover fighting game during the March 8 Nintendo Direct. Very little is known about the game as of now, and although Nintendo hasn't revealed any of its other plans for E3, there's a chance that Smash might make more appearances during that week outside of the invitational. The list of participants for the competition has yet to be revealed.

The list of Splatoon 2 teams, however, will be determined soon through a series of qualifying events around the globe. For North America, the U.S./Canada Inkling Open 2018 is set to go live on April 21 at 11 a.m. PT/2 p.m. ET. Teams of four can register via Battlefy, and all participants need to be at least 13 years old. The finals are scheduled for April 28 at 8 a.m. PT/11 a.m. ET. Other regional qualifiers include Japan (Splatoon Koshien 2018), Europe (Splatoon European Championship), and Australia (AUNZ Splatoon Cup).

“Nintendo always takes an original approach to video game competitions, and the portability of Nintendo Switch enables unique gameplay possibilities,” said Nintendo of America’s Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing Doug Bowser. “We’re looking forward to watching some of the best players in the world test their skills against each other in these two uniquely competitive games.”
