At their E3 Nintendo Direct, Nintendo announced a new tactics game based off of Netflix's upcoming The Dark Crystal prequel series.

Titled The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance Tactics, the game features turn-based grid battles similar to Final Fantasy Tactics or the Tactics Ogre series. The trailer, which you can watch as part of the Nintendo Direct above, also showed the ability to utilize the environment during fights, such as when a character knocks down a pillar to inflict damage on the enemies below. The trailer also included a live-action (if that's what you can call it) puppet in Jim Henson's style, probably borrowed from the set of the Netflix series. It is being developed by BonusXP, who also worked on the Stanger Things game.

The new game is a tie-in to Netflix's upcoming The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance, which is itself based off a recent series of companion novels by J.M. Lee, both of which are prequel series to Jim Henson and Frank Oz's classic 1982 film The Dark Crystal. Basically this game is the product of a lot of things being made based on other things, so hopefully, the end result is still a good game. Though we don't know much about the story of the game, it's probably safe to assume that it will closely connect with the story presented in Netflix's series.

The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance Tactics will be releasing sometime in 2019, but since the Netflix series will be premiering August 30th we can probably expect BonusXP to try and release it around that time as well.
