One of the biggest surprises out of the February Nintendo Direct is a brand new Zelda game. After the success of Breath of the Wild, Nintendo is going back to a simple classic, in what seems to be a re-imagining of the Game Boy's The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening.

With a short reveal trailer showcasing the an anime-styled, cinematic version of the now iconic opening screens of the Game Boy Game, this reimagining of Link's Awakening goes minimalist in terms of style and presentation, being a top-down, classic styled Zelda game with gorgeous, cutesy graphics, as if it were a living toybox come to life.

The game is reminiscent of the 3DS Zelda titles, notably A Link Between Worlds. The visual presentation alone is cute and colorful, offering a nice contrast to the more dream-like, yet somber tone of the Game Boy version of the game.

Link's Awakening originally came out in 1993, and at the time was the 4th installment of the series. Today it is often considered a forgotten classic in the Zelda franchise, selling over 6 million copies worldwide. In Link's Awakening, Link is shipwrecked on Koholint Island, where he must uncover eight magical instruments to escape the island, fighting hordes of monsters and defeating powerful bosses in the process.

Nintendo has not given much details other than announcement trailer on Link's Awakening. It is unknown if the game has changed at all from its Game Boy incarnation, other than the updated presentation, though from the video itself it seems to have retained a lot of the original games charm and story beats. No release date was given either, other than Nintendo is planning to release it later in 2019.
