During the Nintendo Direct today, they opened up by showcasing Super Mario Maker 2. That's right, it's not a port, but a sequel to the the original Wii U game.

There's going to be brand new features such as the Cat Mario suit. Now creators can make levels that cater to this ability. Likely it will allow players to climb up walls and claw enemies, as well as use the suit's signature clawing abilities. Other new inclusions include enemies such as the ant trooper from Super Mario 3D World, and new interface options. There's even Luigi, who also appears on the cover of the game!

There are still more features in development, so expect to experience Mario like never before.

The title is expected to launch very soon. In fact, you can get your hands on it June 2019. For those expecting a port of the original, you're getting something better with this entirely new game.

Quick Take

People have been begging for a port of Super Mario Maker to the Switch. The Wii U was perfect for the game, as was the 3DS. It took advantage of the touchscreen, although you could obviously use controls as well. I think a lot of people are going to be sinking dozens of hours in this new one. I can't wait to see the insane creations that people make. If you haven't already, definitely check out some of the creative levels people have made. Even if you don't enjoy creating levels, they're definitely fun to play other people's creations.
