Update: Toys'Я'us opened up online orders for the NES Classic Edition once again yesterday. Late last night emails went out to those who ordered initially letting customers know that their orders would be delayed but have now canceled all of those orders.

Original Story:

The NES Classic Edition has just been released by Nintendo and it seems that they weren't expecting as many people to want to buy a piece of nostalgia as stores can't keep them in stock. The NES Classic Edition was announced earlier this year. Stores in America such as GameStop, Amazon, BestBuy, and more have been telling fans that they have them in stock only to have them all purchased almost immediately.

For those who are not aware of what the NES Classic Edition is it's a micro console that looks like the original NES but is small enough to fit in the palm of your hand. You can plug a NES Classic Controller into one of the same style ports as you see in the Wiimotes and then plug it into any display that has HDMI. The console comes pre-loaded with 30 classic NES games though there is no way to add any other games to the system so you'll be stuck with the 30. Some of the bigger titles available on the NES Classic are Super Mario Bros series, The Legend of Zelda, Punch-out, and Ghosts'N Goblins for those of you who want a challenge. Some additional features that accompany the NES Classic Edition include multiple display modes so you can make it look like you're playing on a CRT again, and even suspend points so you can save and resume your game from wherever you want.

There have already been some incredible stories of people putting up the NES Classic Edition on reseller sites such as Ebay with one seller managing to auction it off for $5,000, and others are already following in tow. If you were looking forward to getting your hands on one but don't want to pay an exorbitant price Nintendo has tweeted out that they realize there is a large demand and they are working to produce as many of the micro consoles as they can to have them in stores for purchase.

Nintendo also asks that you check your participating local retailers to see what their availability is. The full list of retailers is available on the NES Classic Edition website where you can see the full list of games and features.

What do you think of Nintendo under supplying stores with the NES Classic Edition? Did you manage to get one for yourself? Are you just going to wait for them to be in less demand?
