From the developers of the rhythm-based roguelike Crypt of the Necrodancer comes Cadence of Hyrule, coming to the Nintendo Switch this year.

Cadence of Hyrule features Cadence, the protagonist of Brace Yourself Games' previous title Crypt of the Necrodancer. She is accompanied by at least two other heroes who will be very familiar to anyone: Link and Zelda.

This title, which appears to take the same gameplay as Necrodancer, features a Hyrulian setting. That means we'll see similar monsters (such as Bokoblin) and locations from The Legend of Zelda. There also appeared to be monsters from Necrodancer in the reveal trailer as well.

In traditional roguelikes, characters move one tile at a time, as do enemies. In Necrodancer, each step should be timed with a beat to maximize your potential and traverse the dungeons effectively. Cadence of Hyrule looks to be the same way. We saw the unique abilities of both Zelda and Link. Link could slash with his sword and do his iconic spin, as well as use arrows. Zelda had magic-based attacks.

Here's some more information according to the press release:

As Link or Princess Zelda, players explore randomly generated overworld and dungeons on a quest to save Hyrule, and every beat of the 25 remixed Legend of Zelda tunes is a chance to move, attack, defend and more. From modern-looking Lynels to the Hyrulean Soldiers of old, players must master the instinctive movements of each pixel-art enemy and strategically outstep them in rhythmic combat using an arsenal of iconic items from The Legend of Zelda, as well as the spells and weapons from Crypt of the NecroDancer.
Right now, Cadence of Hyrule is set to launch in Spring this year. Stay tuned for more information on this title.

Quick Take

Consider me very intrigued by this title. I was a fan of Crypt of the Necrodancer and I just love roguelikes. I mean, can you imagine a Legend of Zelda-themed roguelike? The art style looks fantastic and I love the music, which should definitely be good in a game such as this.
