Xenoblade developer Monolith Soft is ramping up production for a new Zelda game. A post on the Japanese developer's website is advertising several positions including programmers, designers, and technical artists as reported by GamesIndustry.biz. The page also happens to have a big ol' Triforce in the background, so it's pretty clear what project the new hires would likely be working on.
One might wonder why Monolith Soft is looking for employees to work on a new Zelda game — isn't that Nintendo's job? Well, Nintendo isn't necessarily against bringing in a little outside help to get the job done every now and again. They've certainly done it before and Monolith Soft was one such company they've gone to in the past. In fact, Monolith Soft helped Nintendo make The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild a reality.
It's not entirely clear what exactly this new Zelda game will be. It could very well be a follow-up to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild in the same way that Majora's Mask shared a lot of similarities with Ocarina of Time. It could just as easily be a brand-new entry in the franchise set in an entirely different universe. In either case, Breath of the Wild has proved wildly popular and that makes either option equally valid.
Monolith Soft isn't just hiring for a new Zelda game — the company is also working on one other game as noted by a different post on their website. This other project is being handled by the Xenoblade team, so one can reasonably assume that that title is something in that particular franchise. Of course, it's also entirely possible that the team has been shifted to some other mystery project.
Regardless of how things play out, Monolith Soft is picking up some new people to work on a game in The Legend of Zelda franchise (and probably the Xenoblade franchise, too). Hopefully, we won't have to wait too long to see the fruits of this labor.
