The latest issue of Japanese magazine Weekly Famitsu contains some juicy Persona 5 The Royal details. These new tidbits come courtesy of an interview with the game's director Daiki Itoh and its producer Kazuhisa Wada.

First up, that name. Apparently, Atlus opted for Royal because they wanted to "express [their] enthusiasm to make a gorgeous title". There could be some translation quirks here, so that's probably not completely accurate. Atlus says it's not just adding new elements to the game; it's also addressing experience gain. Players will now earn experience points easier in order to help them play at a better pace. There's also a new play assist feature which will suggest destinations to players based on their character's parameters and confidant relationships.

Of course, there will be new elements. Atlus is adding a new character, Kasumi, to Persona 5 The Royal. Kasumi will "increase the perspective and flavor of the story" and thus will paint existing characters in a new light. Atlus is tweaking the original Persona 5 story to include Kasumi. Naturally, she'll have a confidant relationship you can level up. On that subject, there's a new confidant, Maruki, whom the devs describe as "an extremely nice adult character". Atlus says there will be more info on new confidants for Persona 5 The Royal in the future, so expect more on this as we get it.

If you thought Persona 5 was too short, rejoice. Atlus is adding a third semester, and director Daiki Itoh says the "volume" of the new content will go beyond Persona 4 Golden players' expectations. If you have Persona 5 save data, you'll get some sort of bonus in Persona 5 The Royal, but you won't be able to use the former in the latter. Persona 5 The Royal will boast 20 new music tracks, as well as a mysterious scene in which a new male character sleeps in the protagonist's bed. Scintillating, no?

Persona 5 The Royal is an enhanced version of Persona 5 announced back in March. The game will launch for the PlayStation 4 in Japan this October. A Western release will follow in 2020. We're not sure on exact dates for that yet.
