Overwatch Open Blizzard ELEAGUE FACEIT

Since Overwatch's initial release almost four months ago, plenty of new content has been added to the game. We've seen the addition of Competitive Play, plenty of changes made to heroes, and even the addition of a brand new hero, Ana. Now Blizzard is planning to release a brand new map for the game, set in Germany, and it will be made available to everybody this September.

Almost every map in Overwatch has ties to at least one specific hero. Hanamura was once the home of the Shimada brothers Genji and Hanzo, and Nepal is the site where Zenyatta taught Genji inner peace. The newest map, Eichenwalde, has ties to both Reinhardt and Bastion. The Hybrid map itself features both a castle and village area, which has some sort of connection to Reinhardt, while the surrounding forest being where Bastion lies dormant until he is eventually awoken. Bastion will be receiving his own animated short that will explain his origin story this Thursday during Gamescom 2016. This short will be the first episode of the second season of Overwatch animated shorts.

As for the map itself, we don't know much about its actual layout just yet. During a recent livestream done by Blizzard, Overwatch lead systems designer Aaron Keller stated that the development team went out to make something truly different than the rest of the maps in Overwatch. He stated that towards the middle of the map, the play area becomes much more vertical. Principal designer Geoff Goodman went on to describe an area towards the end of the map where the payload has to cross a drawbridge. Goodman stated that this area is a great spot for snipers like Widowmaker and Hanzo.

Check out the full preview trailer for Eichenwalde below:

Eichenwalde goes live sometime this September, but you can play it early at Gamescom this week. Eichenwalde is a Hybrid type map, which means it features both a capture point and a payload to move just like in maps like King's Row and Hollywood.

What do you think of Eichenwalde so far? Excited to get your hands on it this September? How about the Bastion short releasing this Thursday? Let us know in the comment section below!
