New Need For Speed Announced, Won't Show At E3

The last Need for Speed title was released about two years ago in 2017, Need for Speed Payback (Our Review), and it didn't do quite so well, to put it mildly. It made sense that Electronic Arts decided to take 2018 off and work on a new Need for Speed game that will put the franchise back on track. Today, the Need for Speed Team has just announced a new game to be released later this year, with a post on the EA Answers forum, detailing on what fans of the franchise can expect.

Although Electronic Arts had already announced earlier this year in their Q3 FY19 Financial Results, that they intended to "deliver new Plants vs. Zombies and Need for Speed titles," there were no details shared. The NFS Team Answers post also doesn't share any details, but they did announce that the franchise is turning 25 this year, and it seems the anniversary is motivating the team to work harder on the next title, as they want to kick off 2020 with a bang: "Our goal is to deliver a truly memorable high-speed entry into the 25 years of NFS, rather than a series of promotional events. The game matters most – a sentiment we bet you share with us."

So it seems the focus is developing a great Need for Speed title, where cars and customization are the beating heart of the franchise, without which it would fail to exist: "These two elements play a pivotal role in the series and are two aspects that we consider to be foundational, meaning they aren’t going anywhere because NFS wouldn’t exist without them." It's probably better not to overpromise on features, but if the game is going to release later this year you will probably hear more about it soon, though they emphasized that the game won't show at E3 2019 this June, as the team is entirely focused on development for now.

Are you looking forward to a new Need for Speed? Did you enjoy Need for Speed Payback, is it still worth playing? Let us know in the comments below!
