Anew

Resonator, a new venture by Steve Copeland (responsible for coding and game design) and Jeff Spoonhower (art, animation, story and sound design), have just announced their first game. The game, an open-world twin-stick shooter titled Anew, will send players off to a distant alien moon 20 lightyears away from Earth. In Anew you will be playing a child who has to make do with limited resources in an alien world. On this world you will be undertaking a mysterious but important mission where you battle and puzzle your way through a beautiful and hand-painted world full of danger.

The soundtrack for the game will be composed by D.I.C.E. nominee Wilbert Roget, whose name some of you might recognize as the composer for games such as Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris, the upcoming co-op zombie RPG Dead Island 2 and Star Wars: The Old Republic

Jeff and Steve have more than enough experience between them to make this a succesful venture. Between them they've worked on franchises like Borderlands, the classic Command and Conquer, Bioshock 2, the Saints Row franchise, Playstation Vita exclusive Uncharted: Golden Abyss, Star Wars: Empire at War and Lord of the Rings: The Battle For Middle-Earth.

There is no release date as of yet, but the duo have a blog on their official website if you want to be kept in the loop.

Update: We erroneously listed Steve Copeland as doing art for the game. Jeff got in contact with us and let us know that he is doing the coding and game design. This has been corrected in the story above.

Quick Take

There's not a lot of info on this game as of yet, but the screenshots look absolutely stunning. Plus, whenever I hear that someone who worked on Bioshock and Borderlands is working on something new, I always perk up and listen. In my mind, there's always a place for more interesting indie games with a fantastic art style. As a musician, I am maybe even more excited with Roget's involvement. The soundtrack for the games he's been involved in have been pretty great in my opinion. Adding this one to the 'to watch' list!

I've been playing games since I was just barely able to walk so I might as well write about them.
