The new game in the Danganronpa franchise -Danganronpa Another Episode: Ultra Despair Girls -  is set to be released this fall on PS Vita in America and Europe. Both physical and digital copies of the game will be available, and the game will feature English and Japanese audio, said the game's American publisher, NIS America, in a press release from this morning.

The new entry bridges two previous entries in the series, Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc and Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair. While those entries played out as visual novel/puzzle games similar to the Ace Attorney franchise, in which the player will have to collect evidence and point out contradictions during testimonies in an assortment of trials, the new entry is a mystery-adventure based third person shooter with puzzle solving elements.

Also unlike previous games, Ultra Despair Girls follows two protagonists - Komaru Naegi, the little sister of Makoto Naegi, the protagonist of Trigger Happy Havoc, and Touko Fukawa, a writing prodigy with dissociative personality disorder who was also present in Trigger Happy Havoc. After being imprisoned in an apartment for a year, Makoto Naegi is rescued by Byakuya Togami who works with the Future Foundation, an organization that aims to end dispair and bring the world to a healthy state. Naegi realizes her home, Towa City, is now being controlled by the Warriors of Hope, a group of children led by a girl named Monica, who wants to turn the city into a "children's paradise." As Monica tries to kill all the adults in the city to achieve her goal, Naegi teams up with Fukawa to survive.

In Japan, Ultra Despair Girls was one of the most bought games during the week it came out in September, 2014, following Super Smash Bros. for the 3DS and The Legend of Heroes: Sen No Kiseki II for the PS Vita. The game sold over 70,000 copies.

A new game in the franchise, Danganronpa: Unlimited Battle, a touch screen action game, was released for iOS in Japan in 2015. There is no word yet on whether it will be released in the West.
