Neko Atsume (“Cat Collection”) is a free-to-play mobile game for iOS and Android that was originally released in October of 2014. Players engage in a simple gameplay loop of leaving food out for adorable cartoon cats, waiting for them to appear, and collecting silver and gold fishes in order to buy toys that allow for more cats to show up. The game was originally released in Japan but it has since received an English translation. It has proven to be somewhat popular, going as far as getting a movie adaptation released in April of 2017. Here’s the Japanese trailer if you’re curious as to how they could possibly adapt this game to a movie:
One of the announcements at the PlayStation conference at the Tokyo Game show was that Neko Atsume VR would be making its way to the PlayStation VR. The announcement was made by PlayStation Japan President Atsushi Morita. Unfortunately, we don’t know much about the game other than its title, the platform it will be on, and a general release date of “sometime in 2018”.
In any case, the VR version of the game will probably do quite well: the Android version of the game has had at least 5,000,000 downloads since its release. If you haven’t yet tried the mobile version of the game out for yourself you can get it on Android or iOS for free with in-app purchases.
