A Need for Speed World offline mod has been released to the world, allowing players of this canceled multiplayer game to hop back into the action without having to worry about the minor inconvenience of the game's servers having been shut down.
As DSOGaming reports, a modder by the name of berkay2578 has created and uploaded the Offline Server mod to NexusMods. Here's the skinny on this mod directly from the description:
This is a modified release of the last stable build(v1.9) published by the original development team (Nilzao & berkay2578). This modified version was released by Keule306 in 04/02/2017. Almost all functionality in the game is restored and is functioning except for the following features:The lack of multiplayer functionality in the Need for Speed World offline mod is probably one of the bigger downsides, but it sure beats not being able to play the game at all. (Heck, I spent many an hour playing Need for Speed Carbon by myself and had a blast.)• Purchasing card packs • Achievement progression • Local multiplayer • Online multiplayer
Installation of the mod is easy enough, although you'll need to make sure that you have Java installed in order to run it. Once you do, it's simply a matter of extracting the downloaded archive from NexusMods, running the .jar file contained within, and pointing the program to where you have the game currently installed. After that, simply launch the game and you're ready to go!
This particular mod is a fork of the Soapbox Race Offline server, a project that is working towards restoring multiplayer functionality in the game. At the rate things are going, we may be able to play a canceled game with friends once again.
