Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord Custom Battle mode has been revealed by TaleWorlds. This latest addition to the game seeks to give players easy access to one of the franchise's most interesting features at the click of a button.

For those of you unfamiliar with the franchise, the Mount & Blade games are about commanding an army in the fictional land of Calradia. You and your soldiers can sign up with one of several different kingdoms (or form your own!) in an attempt to unify the land under a single banner. Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord has been in development for some time and they've just announced a new feature to make the game even better than before.

The Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord Custom Battle mode will effectively let players skip most of the RPG aspects of the game and get right to fighting. Normally, raising an army would require heading to multiple different towns for recruiting soldiers. You'd probably have to build up your reputation by doing some quests, increase your skills by leveling up, and keep your troops well-supplied with a nice variety of food. Oh, and you'd have to pay them, too. The Custom Battle mode will do away with all of that.

Players can select their commander, faction, troop compliments, and army size all from one convenient menu. Pick the location and the game mode and you're off to the races! You can also further customize things down to minutiae like wall health, specific percentages of troops, and the specific objectives for the AI.

Taleworlds notes that Custom Battle mode can certainly be used for fun but it's also quite useful as a sort of research tool for the game. After all, the best way to find out which strategies work best is to try them out, and why risk your soldiers in your precious save file when you can simply spin up a skirmish? This will be one of many new features (including children, improvements to fief management, and more) making its way to Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord, a game that's all set to release whenever the heck Taleworlds decides they're done.
