Fantasy role-playing franchise The Elder Scrolls is celebrating its 25th anniversary, and Bethesda has a bunch of stuff planned to celebrate.

First off, you can grab the Game of the Year edition of classic open-world RPG The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind free. All you need to do for your Morrowind free copy is create a free account on Bethesda's website, then log in and redeem the code TES25TH-MORROWIND. You'll need to download the Bethesda Game Launcher in order to play it. Originally Bethesda was only offering Morrowind free on March 25th, but they've kindly decided to extend the offer all the way until March 31st after they had some site issues, so get your downloads in before then.

Also as part of the anniversary celebrations, on March 28th Bethesda will begin a Free Play Week of The Elder Scrolls Online. Players will be able to access the base game and the Morrowind zone as part of the Free Play Event. This offer is valid on all platforms, so whether you're a PC player or a console gamer, you'll be able to get stuck into ESO for a week or so.

The event will also allow players to access the new Elsweyr Prologue sequence for free until April 3rd. The Elsweyr Prologue consists of a set of quests setting up the upcoming Elder Scrolls Online: Elsweyr expansion pack and can be triggered either by using a specific item or finding the Imperial messenger Anais Davaux in your alliance's first major city. If you love the game after you've spent some time with it this week, you can grab The Elder Scrolls Online and its expansions for 50% off until April 1st. There's a treasure trove of offers and free stuff available for players of The Elder Scrolls: Legends, while Skyrim fans can enjoy new Creation Club content to commemorate the anniversary. A number of live streams will also be happening over the next few days with plenty of Elder Scrolls-related info and gaming. For full details on the live stream schedule, check out the official Bethesda website. If you're interested in grabbing some gaming goodies for pretty decent discounts, head over to the Bethesda store for the sale.

One final note: if you're a massive Elder Scrolls nerd and you've never seen the series' origins, then early titles Arena and Daggerfall are both completely free to download and play. That's not part of the anniversary celebrations, so you won't miss the deadline on those if you're interested.

How will you be celebrating 25 years of The Elder Scrolls? Time for a fiftieth playthrough of Skyrim? Let us know in the comments below!
